Cone Beam Imaging
Cone beam imaging is a truly remarkable imaging technology that your doctor may use during your visit. At Point Family Dentistry, we will use our ProMax 3D Mid cone beam CT system when your doctor feels this method is necessary to help with a diagnosis. Cone beam (CBCT) is similar to CT or CAT scan that you may have had for a medical procedure. CBCT will take a three dimensional image of a small area, like 2-3 teeth, or perhaps the majority of your entire head. Your doctor will prescribe the image needed based on the clinical requirements.
The good part is, CBCT is a tiny fraction of the radiation dose of a medical CT.
CBCT is becoming the de-facto standard for many dental procedures, such as:
- Implant placement assessment
- Endodontic analysis (root canals)
- Structural analysis for joint and facial pain
- Airway imaging for sleep disorder diagnosis
- Cracks and fractures in your teeth
- Bone level lesions
CBCT is also becoming widely used for general screening and diagnosis of “hidden” pathologies in your mouth that may not be hurting you, and may not even need to be treated, but it’s still good to know they are there so your Point Family Dentist can show you and have that conversation with you about it. We don’t like surprises, and we’re pretty sure you don’t either.
Be assured, at Point Family Dentistry, your safety, and your care are our top priority. We chose the ProMax system because it delivers highly diagnostic images, at the lowest dose available for dental imaging systems.
